What was your favorite road-trip of all time?
Submitted by bodhibound.
Our vacation in 2002. We were living in the Midwest and decided to take almost two weeks to travel out to CA, stopping at some really cool places along the way:
I am going to attempt to put the photos in order of how we drove out (we took two different routes there and back). To the right is an interesting tourist site in Texas. I think we added our own graffiti as well.
We hit some nasty weather in NM the second day of our travels, but we were treated to a gorgeous sunset as the day came to a close.
The highlight of the trip - in my humble yet accurate opinion - was visiting the Grand Canyon. Words do not - and cannot - describe it. Everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.
(We didn't have the greatest camera back then, so I apologize for the quality, but you will get an idea of what we saw.)
I'd read that Lipan Point was the best place to view the sunset - and it did not disappoint.
It was hotter than Hades that day, so we enjoyed the view from the comfort of our air conditioned van.
For some reason, I don't have a lot of photos of our time in CA - we visited near LA (Rob's mom's) and down in La Jolla. We also went to Disneyland. I guess we were weary of taking pictures by then - or I just can't find them in our stellar filing system.
I did find this one of Rob and his buddy, whose condo we stayed at while we were in La Jolla. We are still in mourning that he and his wife moved to FL last year.
We took a more southerly route home, stopping to visit friends in AZ. The scenery along that way was a little less majestic, but we did catch a few cool mountain photos.
We finished off the trip with a stop in TX to visit more family and see their then-new baby (wow, I just realized that "baby" is 5...where did the time go?)
Eventually I will move my journal entries about this trip over to the archives I've been constructing here. But for now, if nothing else, it has been fun for me to reminisce!
