July is national ice cream month! What's your favorite flavor?
Submitted by LittleWiseOne.
Do I really have to choose just one?! Because it really depends on my mood. And the truth is, there aren't too many flavors I DON'T like.
So, I guess my favorite kind right now is Bruster's Pistachio. Sweet cream and salty pistachios = heaven.
What's your favorite type of donut?

Do I have to pick just one?
Seriously, donuts are the bane of my existence. I adore them. I know they are horribly bad for me, but I almost can not resist a donut.
This was really bad news when we lived 2 miles from Krispy Kreme.
Anyway, if I go to the Dunkin', I get either Boston Creme or Toasted Coconut. If I happen upon a Krispy Kreme, give me a glazed sour cream, and thankyouverymuch.
Things I am not liking:
~ Walking out to the car two mornings in a row and finding pterodactyl-sized feces on my car. Might I add that said car resides under a car port.
~ Having an itch on my big toe that won't go away. Grrrrr.
~ Gas prices. Double grrrr.
Things I am liking:
~ Freshly painted nails.
~ Freshly painted toenails.
~ Warm enough weather to skip the panty hose (yet another reason to like freshly painted toenails)
~ Salad with dinner - especially when 2/3rds of the veggies were free!
~ Reading a favorite book.
~ Cinnamon coffee cake
~ Appletinis
was given at work on Tuesday.
Last night I subjected the kids to pirogies. They weren't very impressed.
(I offered hummus too, but they immediately scorned my newest addiction).
Ah well, what good is being a mom if you don't force your kids to eat something they can't spell now and again?
For a full sit-down dinner with several guests, would you rather be the one cooking or do you prefer to just show up and eat?
A little of both. I like to contribute to the meal, but not always be the one cooking the whole thing. Like today - we will "show up", but I am bringing to dishes that I prepared.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
What is your favorite dish on the Thanksgiving table?

Oh my goodness - I can't think of a favorite of the main and side dishes, though I have to say that my stuffing is pretty kick-ass. I try not to brag often, but this stuff is good, trust me.
I can pick a favorite dessert though. Gooey butter pumpkin cake. A friend in the Midwest used to make it for me, and when we moved she passed on her recipe. I believe Paula Deen has featured it on her show as well. It is soooo good. I call it "Pun'kin Crack" because it is truly addictive.
What's your favorite appetizer to order at a restaurant?
I don't know that I really have a favorite. We hardly ever order appetizers with our meal. If we do, nine times out of ten it is mozzarella sticks. If we are at Chili's, we do like to get the chips and salsa, but gosh, it's been ages since we went to Chili's, so I don't even know if they are on the menu anymore. When we go to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, we always get the cheese dip and then share an entree.
Sometimes I order an appetizer as my meal. I like lettuce wraps or southwest egg rolls. I used to get the veggie patch pizza at Applebee's for a meal too, but again - another place we haven't been to in ages.
I do like Olive Garden's stuffed mushrooms. I guess if money were no object and I could eat like I was 16 again, I'd get those all the time.
(Yeah, I know. Keep dreamin'.)
Show us something you love but everyone else hates.

I am the only one who will touch the stuff, and I actually really like it. Especially with fruit on it. Yum!
What is your favorite greasy spoon?

The Honey Bee Diner in Glen Burnie, Maryland. The cheesesteak subs are the best around, IMHO (not quite as good as the ones I used to get at Dayton's in OC as a child, but they will do). They are H U G E. Rob and I always split a whole one and it is more than enough (I think they use a 14 inch sub roll).
And I always get french fries with brown gravy. They bring the gravy in a small bowl so you can dip them. I think this is a Baltimore-area thing; I have never seen french fries and brown gravy listed on any other menu outside of that metro area. But, anyway, the fries are crispy and the gravy is tasty, and this meal is sure to clog every last artery, but, oh my word. I just love it and it also rings nostaligic with me since I grew up in that area.
What's one family recipe that you wish you knew how to cook?
Sour beef. My grandmother or grandfather used to make it. I know you use ginger snaps. But that is the extent of what I remember about the recipe.
I don't even know if I'd really like it - it's been so long since I had it - but it reminds me of Mom-Mom and Pop coming to our house in the winter, showing up while we were at school, and starting to cook almost immediately. That is also why I am not sure if it was Pop or Mom-Mom who made it; they each had their specialties, but all I really remember is the two of them in the kitchen, whipping up something as we came flying through the doors after school, thrilled that they were in town.
