More on the book challenge

You have some of my all-time faves on this list! Love Persuasion (probably my favorite Austen) and Emma. Love, love, love The Handmaid's Tale. And Memoirs of a Geisha. And of course, Gone With the Wind. Okay. I'll stop now. =)
I am glad I have some good picks! I just hope I have the time to read them all...I just have to make the time, you know? I am much happier when I take time for reading.

What a great idea. I've read 12 of the books listed. Gone with the Wind is one of my favourite books! Also The Handmaid's Tale. I hope you enjoy them :)

I don't think you have to read them in order, so don't let that stop you. :)

I'm reading Handmaid's Tale and Love in the Time of Cholera this year, too. :)

I am looking forward to reading all of them. But I still need an X book...
Yeah, I know I don't have to read them in order, but I am slightly OCD that is probably how I will read them anyway. Plus, it will help me keep track better :-).

Oh, I understand. :)

I have a list of the books I'm reading by challenge and a potential reading schedule of the books I'm reading by month. I'm a little OCD too, and this is its chance to shine. ;)

For X, I'm reading Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr. http://www.amazon.com/Ink-Exchange-Melissa-Marr/dp/006121468X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1231077941&sr=1-1 It's the second in a series. If this one is entertaining, I may read the other one too (it's called Wicked Lovely and would fit into the series challenge I'm doing).

This also sounds interesting: http://www.amazon.com/Saves-World-Generation-Everything-Sucking/dp/0143115154/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1231077906&sr=1-4

I really like Gone With the Wind, too. I prefer the movie, I think, but I like the book too. :)

You should consider doing that books into movies challenge. At least 12 of those books have been made into movies. We could have the best movie night ever; I have five of them. :)

That would be fun. I think the only one on this list that I have seen (the movie) is Gone with the Wind. Usually I prefer the book to the movie, save a few, such as Fried Green Tomatoes and Ya Ya Sisterhood.
Great choices. I've read ten on your list, and a few faves are on there -- the Handmaid's Tale (one of the best books I've ever read), Gone with the Wind, Persuasion, Blue Like Jazz, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Jane Eyre, the Kite Runner...all good choices. Can't wait to hear what you think of them all!
Reading them with my schedule is going to be tough enough, let alone giving a review - but I really want to do that too, and hope I can pull it off. :-)

I preferred the movie of Fried Green Tomatoes, too. I also preferred the movie versions of Beaches and The Godfather. :)

I like the movie of The Other Boleyn Girl, but I think it's because I saw that first and I haven't seen it since I read the book.

Does the title need to begin with X, or just have an x in the title? If so, how about Middlesex?
It would be ideal if it began with X, but you are allowed to just have an X in the title, since that is such a persnickety letter :-).
I think you should read the Poisinwood Bible for your P selection. It was a great read and one of my all time favorites. It's a different kind of story.
Thanks for the tip, Anna. I started Poisonwood Bible about 6 months ago, but got distracted and haven't picked it back up yet. I definitely plan to read it - whether for this challenge or not.

This is such a fun idea! I'd love to try it myself only I'm not sure I'd be disciplined enough!

What a fun twist on reading commitments. Seems we all have our strategies to make the bedside book pile go down. I will now be on a quest for books with prominent X's in the title. A quick sear turned up the following:
X-ing A Paragraph (Edgar Allen Poe) and Xingu (Edith Wharton) - regrettably these are short stories.
Academy X (Andrew Trees) and the Autobiography of Malcolm X (Alex Haley)

Two other recommendations:
For R - Revolutionary Road (Richard Yates) inspired by the book/movie conversation
Just because - Eunoia (Christian Bok). Each chapter is limited to words using a single vowel. Goes along with your letter theme.

Good luck! I'm so inspired by all these readers!
I would highly recommend "Girl With a Pearl Earring" by Tracy Chevalier.
Thanks for the recommendations!
Oh, I would like to read that, but I want to read Gone with the Wind too...maybe I can read both.

this site has a list of books beginning with z. and i started reading a book called zinnia once, but i cant say that i would honestly recommend it. :)

Cool - thanks for the link!
If you want a book that actually starts with X, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Xenocide by Orson Scott Card. Problem with that one is that there are at least two or three books preceding that one in the series, so maybe that isn't the best choice.
Thanks for the suggestion :-).
It isn't fiction and doesn't start with X but William Dalrymple's "In Xanadu" will transport you to a part of the world that is so far from your own world that it might as well be outer space. Funnily enough it is inhabited by other human beings.
Thanks - I am not opposed to non-fiction, but I do seem to blaze through fiction a lot faster, so I lean toward that. But I will look into your suggestion :-).
What a great idea.I have read a few of the books on your list and I absolutely loved The Poisonwood Bible, I can strongly reccommend it. Good luck with the reading.
Thanks - one down, at least 25 more to go :-).
Where did you come up with the idea for this challenge? I have some goals for books I want to read, but I'm not sure I could do an alphabet challenge. Still, it's a great idea! I might make my own list now...
I found the reading challenge here. I came up with the actual reading list on my own. Happy reading to you!

Wonderful choice, girlfriend. Memoirs of a Geisha is a great book, real good. and ofcourse Nicholas Sparks is VERY good too.

Have a great reading year sweetie.

BTW LOVE the pics from the cruise. Haven't been on here for a long time so reading now most entrees, lol.
