Me and my flashback (new home, part 3)

One of the first things I noticed when we walked into what is now our home was the dark wood beams on the ceiling in the great room. Generally, I like this look. However, the sight of these beams provided a bit of a flashback for me.

You see, my parents had the exact same beams in their dining room when I was growing up. You may think, "Well, that's kind of cool and nostalgic isn't it, Nicole?"

What would you say if I told you said beams are actually made of Styrofoam?

Yes, indeed. The moment I saw them, I jumped up in the air and gave them a good tapping: definitely Styrofoam.

So, what will I do with this 70s flashback decor?

My first thought was to pull those puppies down at the soonest opportunity. Then the kiddos started ~~whining~~ enthusing that they like them....

Then I thought about how stinking long the silly things would sit in some landfill if I did dispose of them...

HA! My parents had roof beams all over their old house, but it was a house built in the 1850s and they were real wood.

I don't know HOW I would react to styrofoam!

Hah!!! I've always like that look too -- who cared if they're styrofoam as long as you (or the kids!) like the way that they look.

Haha! Styrofoam??? Can you paint them? they would look neat if the ceiling and walls were a pale shade of blue or yellow, or green, and the fake beams were a crisp white, or the other way around, they were the color of the main color of furniture in the room

LoL I enjoyed that. Our house, that (at the moment) we rent out, down in Mid-IL has ceiling beams, but it is a really old house and they are real wood. The previous owners had them painted ugly though, so we were planning on painting them before we found out we were having to move up here.

If those beams were in my house growing up, my brothers and I would have surely invented a game that involved throwing forks into the beams. We were naughty like that.
